Charity skydiver Andreas Kattou - March 2010
This is the first in a series of charity skydiving interviews with complete novices to find out why they raised money for good causes, what they experienced on their first jump and to give potential jumpers a good understanding from the point of view of a layman.

So with that we have Mr England 2009, Andreas Kattou doing his first parachute jump at Skydive Hibaldstow on Monday 1st March 2010. Read his unique story here:

  1. What made you decide to do a charity parachute jump?

Well the reason i did this jump for charity was for my little cousin Alexi Kattou, who sadley passed away on the 14th of December 2009. I'm not the best when it comes to heights, but nothing was gonna stop me from doing this and its the best thing I've ever done.

  2. How much do you think you have raised so far and what will it be spent on?

Up to now, I have raised around £1,600 and all money will be donated to the Variety Club. They support young children with disabilities and heart conditions, so money will be spent to help these youngs soldiers see another day.

  3. Tell us a little about yourself for those that do not know who you are?

Well my names Andreas Kattou im 24 years of age and in july I was crowned Mr England and I'm going to South Korea on the 11th of March to compete for the Mr World. Before the modeling, I used to play football and played international football for cyprus for their u17, u18 and under 19s teams. In addition, I also have a Greek Cypriot backgroud which I'm very proud of and grateful to be in the position I'm in.

  4. The questions which everyone asks, was it frightening and what was the best part?

To be honest I thought I was gonna be scared because I'm not the best with heights but I wasn't. I was nervous, but not scared.

Strange, but the best part was when you first leave the plane. I felt so free and the addrenaline was fantastic.

  5. If you had the time and money, would you do it again?

Ooohhh yes I'm defintley doing it again and next time when its a little warmer! I want to get coached to do it by myself with an AFF course.

  6. Some would argue, that you're crazy doing a tandem skydive, that it's dangerous. Now that you've completed your skydive, what answer would you give to them?

People can say what they want, but I think you have to be a little crazy to do something like this. But then again, your crazy if you don't try it. This is defently an experience I will talk about for years to come and recomend it to anyone who wants to find something with so much addrenaline.

I'm still saying wwwooooooooooooooooooooooooooo in my head lol!

I loved every mintue of it and I was so confident in myself thanks to the team of Hibaldstow Sydive, they were all fantastic. During the training course, they gave me such a buzz beforehand. They accepted me as one of them, like I was in the team and that was a boost in itself. Thank-you guys.
